Monsters and Aliens 3D - 5 Stars
I loved this movie. A meteorite from space makes a girl who was bout to get married, into a giant. the government takes her away into a secluded laboratory where she, the Monster, meets other Monsters that the government has also captured. We can't tell you the rest - cause it would spoil the movie for you.Let's just say it involves Aliens. I loved the 3D effects. These are probably the best and most realistic humans I have seen in 3D, but of course they are cartoonish on purpose, I think, so young men and boys don't get too much of a rush. Cast: Reese Witherspoon as the giant girl Susan Murphy, Seth Rogen as B.O.B., Hugh Laurie from the Tv show House as Dr. Cockroach Phd., Will Arnett as the Missing Link, Kieer Sutherland yes from the TV show 24 as W.R. Monger, Rainn Wilson as the evil Galaxhor.
Believe it or not, that makes a very small pyramid for the action to occur in front of the screen. A smaller set would be nice where you sit a couple of feet away and actually have a more immersive experience. More on that point later. So I went to the amazon link for the Alienware 23 inch monitor and today bought that with a computer with an nVidia graphics card and nVidia’s 3D Vision kit and everything needed to watch broadcast 3D over the internet or cable, 3D movies off a Blu-Ray player and play 3D games on the PC or from a console. Whew. All for about $2600 which is about the price of the Samsung system. But I will be able to create 3D content and hopefully show you soon the advantages of small screen 3D. I have a day job so please be patient. By the way I hooked up the playstation 3 and played the avatar game on an old monitor. To my surprise it was in field sequential stereo 3D. Now I know it's not what the manufactures of 120hz 3D active glasses want you to know, but my old 60 hz 3D glasses might work on most monitors. Of course the picture wouldn't be as big or as clear, but it would probably work. It all depends on your monitor's refresh rate. If you want to see things the new way get a monitor with at least a 120hz refresh rate and 1920 x 1080p. Also the HDMI chord might need to be a 1.4a and 240 hz for you to get full 1920 x 1080p to each eye! More later.
3-22-2010 It seems they are tempoarily out of the alienware 3D monitor at amazon. Maybe there is a rush for them but Amazon will have some more very soon. Meanwhile it seems that there is a special Blu-Ray edition of Monsters and Aliens that was sent to the Best Buy stores. So right now as far as I know, you can't buy the 2010 3D HD 1080p version anywhere just yet. I'll keep looking.

2009 and before:
Alice in Wonderland 3D – IMAX and RealD. Tim Burton is the director. Alice is about to get married, or at least the groom’s family thinks it’s a done deal. The groom gives a great performance, looking very surprised and rejected when Alice runs away. Of course she covers a mile or so in a few seconds and falls down a hole near a tree, all while chasing the white rabbit. I liked the blue caterpillar as his voice (Alan Rickman) was so cool. Best 3D effect was the Cheshire Cat (Stephen Fry) floating into the audience. Now some 3D purists dislike the way things float in front of the screen. They claim that the best 3D is behind the screen and think that the things pointing out of the screen should be limited to a very small proportion of the screen, like a sword or spear. The Cheshire cat blows that theory out of the water just like the blowfish did in Magic Journeys at Disney parks back in the early eighties. Oh yes, and Johnny Depp is the Mad Hatter.

Stereoscopic 3D TVs employ two separate images displayed simultaneously for the left and right eyes and interpose them upon each other. Since the human eyes are 2.5 inches apart, the objects are seen from two different angles, so 3D is often shot with two cameras simultaneously.

Using the infrared camera in the Wii remote and a head mounted sensor bar (two IR LEDs), you can accurately track the location of your head and render view dependent images on the screen. This effectively transforms your display into a portal to a virtual environment. This version is published by Activision for Playstation 3 and XBLA and runs in 720P high definition (on PS3) and looks and sounds terriffic. Regarded as the first, modern first person shooter, this FPS is extremely fun and timeless. Waste Nazis in a castle (hideout or something) and blast away with machine guns and miniguns. Wolfenstein 3-D is an extreneky good value giving you all six episodes and missions (each with numerous levels) where you can slaughter your way through to end bosses and find hidden rooms and treasure. Unlock PS3 trophies as you cruise through the game, Wolfenstein 3D (or Wolfenstien 3D if you're searching for an improperly spelled title on google) is a precurser to Doom and Quake and needs to be played by all FPS video game fans.
